The power of books. I have a friend who actually met and interviewed Jack Prelutsky. She said that he was a marvellous children's author/poet and a funny curmudgeon of a fellow. 😀

I think children are excellent judges of character and particularly respect a funny curmudgeon.
I love this poem and posted it on the FB site awhile back. There is so much truth in its simple words. For many children and adults reading might be the only way to explore the world and enjoy new experience.
