It just occurred to me that "The Grey Wolf" is the first book in the Three Pines series that has made me want to immediately reread the book after finishing. I know that many here have read the book series multiple times and I plan on going back to the start at "Still Life" (after my second "The Grey Wolf" read) and reading the entire series again. I will be very ready for "The Black Wolf"!

So I wonder now, because I can see from some of the comments in the discussion forum that this is a very knowledgable bunch, how many times have you read any one particular book, or the entire series? What did you gain from your additional reads?

  1. I only discovered Louise Penny about a year ago. Since then I have read the first eighteen twice. Her’s are the first books I have ever considered re-reading. What I found was that these books are so packed with not just a mystery to be solved but history lessons, poetry, humor, fabulous one liners that triggered personal memories, and this awesome sense of being safe at home. I will re-read Grey Wolf soon after I have resolved some eye issues.

  2. I discovered these books in 2023, I believe. First I borrowed from the library and listened to the audio versions. Then I realized that these were also books that I had to have on my shelf, and in my hands on demand, and needed to see the words and think about what was said and what was going on in more depth. So I read them. Then we started the book club discussions, and to prepare, I read and/or listened to them again. And this year, in prep for The Grey Wolf, I’ve listened to and sometimes also re-read, most of them. And I’ve now got a lot of them via Audible this year, so that I will always have both an audio and a physical book available. These, for me, are keepers, and comfort food for my brain. As for The Grey Wolf, I marathon-listened to it the day it was delivered on Audible, in prep for me going to see LP in Lancaster, PA that week– just in case! Put me right in the spirit. Now, I’m reading the physical copy, and re-listening as I go. I want to have it clear in my head when we do the discussion, plus I’m REALLY enjoying it.

      1. Sorry I’m so late in replying; I’m still trying to figure out how to do things here and didn’t realize you’d responded. LP was a fantastic speaker! There were about 1200 people there in Lancaster, I was told, and she captivated the audience. She’s witty, thoughtful, self-deprecating, and quick on her feet to answer questions. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

  3. Only once for me so far, so I have some reading to do to catch up to you all! I have the same plan to read The Grey Wolf a second time before our discussions and then to go back to the start and read the entire series again; this time with a new perspective and appreciation. I think I may take notes as well!
