Very fitting as the winds are really howling here. Even some snow flakes flying around. At least my cat is too fat to become airborne!!!
Libby’s comment left me wondering where all of us live. I have already posted about the Petroglyph National Monument and NM. I would be interested in other folks.
I am in Florissant, one of the suburban towns which is part of St. Louis County, Missouri. I grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. The winds are really howling here today. And my feral cats are hunkered down in the garage.
I am right smack dab in between Chicago and Milwaukee. About a mile inland from Lake Michigan and seven miles South of Wisconsin. If you don’t like our weather wait twenty minutes and it will change. Where’s everyone else?
Libby, we have old friends in Milwaukee and daughter and son-in-law in South Bend. There is some amazingly beautiful country there.
Wisconsin is filled with beautiful country. I grew up in the NorthWest corner of Illinois which is an unglaciated area of the state. My hometown,Mt. Carroll, is just that. You can’t go from one major street to another without going up or down a hill. Some rather steep. The short drive to Galena from Mt. Carroll takes one along the Mississippi River on one side of the road and bluffs on the other. No one would ever believe that country was part of the boring plains of central Illinois.
I have a daughter who lives in Kenosha, WI which is just across the state line from me – so South of your daughter. Small world.
My dearest friend ever lives near Phoenix, Arizona. Such an interesting state geographically speaking. While I have not been near your home area I have seen Sedona, Flagstaff, and driven through the desert. From snow capped mountains to desert in about three hours. Pretty fascinating.
I have a sister in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Loved the EAA Airshow in Oshkosh. My husband used to work on the flight line there.
I was born and raised in Vancouver, BC, Canada. I’d love to travel around the States more one day. All of your hometown areas sound so interesting!
I understand BC is gorgeous and would love to visit and explore the Vancouver area.
More than happy to offer travel tips if needed and yes, we’re pretty spoiled with mountains, sea and city.
I don’t get into Vancouver as much as I used to. I live in Gibsons, on the Sunshine Coast in BC, although it’s not very sunshiney right now. We just had a bomb cyclone blow through! So many trees fell because of the very strong winds. So I identify with that small kitty. Gibsons is on the coast so we’re steps from many beaches. It’s known for Molly’s Reach – a cafe that’s a bit of a landmark because it was the set of the old TV show The Beachcombers that ran in Canada for over 15 years. We’ve got a lovely bookstore called Reasons To Live Books and plenty of parks and nature to explore You have to get here by a 40 minute ferry ride from Vancouver. As we’re all mystery lovers here I will mention the wonderful mystery writer L.R. Wright. She wrote the great Alberg mystery series which is set right here on the Sunshine Coast.
I watched a few episodes of Murder in a Small Town, but it just did not “grab” me. But, I remember seeing Molly’s. The scenery was lovely.
I concur, it is gorgeous! The city of Vancouver is one of the coolest and most welcoming places I have visited. Between the halibut and the dumplings, I have rarely eaten so well although I do have a soft spot for PEI mussels. And then there is Vancouver Island. Victoria, Butchart Gardens and Tofino are amazing. My bucket list includes visiting Vancouver Island during a Pacific storm. I am going to bow to reality and skip the Pacific Rim Trail from Ucluelet to Tofino. As much as I enjoy living in the high desert, I find this area so lovely.
I’m so glad you liked my hometown, Jane. We are a great “foodie” city, that’s for sure. We also have local mussels but I’ve never done a taste comparison between East and West Coast. And yes, you must visit the Island during a Pacific storm but be sure it’s from a safe distance and with a very warm sweater! Sadly, I have never done the Pacific Rim Trail and have had to make the same reality check as you. But I do want to travel to desert areas one day because they are just so different from “the rain coast” and have their own unique beauty.
I highly recommend New Mexico. Many folks think of AZ or southern California when they think of desert and they are lovely. But NM is a mile above sea level and very different. I hope you get to your desert trip someday.
Thank you Jane. I hope so too. I definitely have my eye on New Mexico not only for the scenery but for all its rich history too.
