Perhaps this has some relevance to some of the issues we face. Access to information via the Internet has been a remarkable advance in technology, but more information is not always better as we now realize. Now we understand the need for quality information, sources with integrity, and the complicated factors in effective communication in an evolving world where speed, convenience and entertainment are prioritized.

  1. I think there is too much responding to everything all at once without thinking about what is being said. People don’t listen to learn or understand because they are too busy coming up with their next response. Sometimes silence is the best response. Listen and learn!!!

  2. I completely agree with you Libby and Nancy. And that’s an excellent question, Susan; I think about that quite a bit, more than I probably should, and wonder if we might be able to find some answers and do something positive from our online experiences and observations.

  3. If there is any group of people who can empathize with others to truly understand another person’s point of view, it’s this one right here. That is very clear from our book discussions and how much effort is put into understanding the characters involved. It’s sounds simplistic to say that we just need to understand more deeply and identify effective ways to communicate, but I do imagine that it can be done. Not without quite a lot of effort though, as “our friend Alicia” knows.
