Dear BCFs!

I am most grateful for every one, every post, every pun, pet and person!

I apparently have a flare for alliteration today!

Here is a current events link, both inspiring and sobering. (No paywall)

The photo is from one of our many visits to Canada!

  1. Thanks for sharing that, Jane. It makes me so profoundly sad to read it, but it’s a reality that can’t be ignored. I would say again to my Canadian BCFs here– I’m so sorry. Stand strong. I know that you, here, know this, but make sure your leaders are smart, honest, and have a good moral compass (I know that this is often next to impossible to find in this world of misinformation, but some things are more obvious than others, if one uses some critical thinking). And if there’s anything that you can think of that I can do that might help, let me hear it! I plan to do the opposite of boycotting Canadian goods, for one thing. I’ll be looking for them wherever I can, for as long as I can afford them!

  2. Thanks Jane! Love the photo!

And thanks for another good article. I would say it’s quite accurate with respect to Canadian sentiment at the moment. I’m pleased to read about the Albertan who has changed his perspective though. That is something positive at least.

And Susan, you do not need to apologize. At all. None of our American friends here should feel the need to apologize. It’s been sad to see the anti-Canada memes pop up on FB and the disinformation floating around. I dug into one or two pages spitting out the viral messages out of curiosity and traced it back to foreign roots, although the pages were all purely about American politics. Well, we know exactly what is happening and who is behind it, don’t we? Right now, it seems that most Americans are against the idea of annexing Canada, but we know how quickly and easily things can change.

    1. Thanks, Jane, for your kind and thoughtful words. I am just so appalled by so much of what I see and hear these days, and I get furious when I see blatant misrepresentation and manipulation being thrust upon us. You’ve definitely got the right idea about fact-checking before believing anything on FB or indeed any other social media setting, because there are those people who are using those venues as a weapon for evil, hateful purposes. On the other hand, these venues can also be used as weapons for good, and reasonable discourse, like this website. I am so grateful to you and all the admins here for being such a good example, and a haven for people like me who need the boost you provide.

      1. I have to agree with the article too, although I previously saw a figure of 91% of Americans do not support annexing Canada, and today I saw a figure that only 41% definitively oppose the idea. I think that if Musk et al want our country, and I do believe that are determined, then they will use all of their tools and power to make it happen. I can’t believe that Canadians were so nonplussed about FB removing all access to legitimate news agencies, pages and articles last year. That should have been a huge red flag, but the social media addiction is real. I think this leaves Canadians at great risk to the deceptive strategies that have been used to put dictators in power garner support for these dictatorships from citizens.

I don’t think that the challenge for everyone here is to spot the lies and have to do fact checks. I think we’re at the stage of recognizing the propaganda on first sight, verifying sources and confirming what we suspect is in process. At least we understand what is happening, why it’s happening and how it’s happening.

  3. What a wonderfully wholesome world we wander into when we want wander away from the wackos and instead get welcomed here where we write words with whimsy to warm and wickedly witty women.

Wow. What is wrong with we. me.

Thanks for the link Jane! Always appreciate the thoughtful articles you share.
