Here's another Canadian artist, Clarence Gagnon. This is titled "Village in the Laurentian Mountains", 1925.
"Four planks wide and clear of the chunky snow heaped on either side, the boardwalk at the centre of Clarence Gagnon’s Village in the Laurentian Mountains invites viewers to walk straight into this overcast, yet buoyant, wintry scene, boots clunking on cold, wet wood. The brown planks echo the trail of icy mud in the road, emphasizing the dips and contours of the snow all around, as well as the curve along which Gagnon draws our attention deeper into this inviting Quebec village, which aptly represents the landscape and way of life that the painter held most dear."

He made illustrations for “Maria Chapdelaine” by Louis Hemon that are absolutely beautiful. If you are ever near the McMichael Collection in Kleinburg, Ontario go check them out. They also have other works of his.
Thank you Carol
So lovely. His curving lines and hints of red just draw me right down that street and into the center of that little town, and those mountains remind me that there’s sun out there, somewhere! Thanks for sharing this, and reminding me that winter can be so beautiful.
