Ken Follett’s Kingsbridge series is a historical saga beginning in the medieval era and continuing through the early 19th century. The stories revolve around the characters living in the fictional town of Kingsbridge in England.

Ambitious in scope, the novels delve into historical and political intrigue within the lives of everyday people in Kingsbridge. Ken Follett vividly brings the times to life with meticulously detailed settings, creating complex characters that readers care for deeply, as well as gripping plots. He also explores universal human themes of faith, resilience, and love within the broader context of history.

The series begins with The Pillars of the Earth (Book 1), set in the 12th century, which revolves around the construction of a majestic cathedral and the lives of those who are bound to it. World Without End (Book 2) takes place two centuries later. A Column of Fire (Book 3) is set in the 16th century. The fourth book, The Evening and the Morning, is a prequel to the entire series, with events taking place in the Dark Ages before The Pillars of the Earth. The most recent novel, The Armor of Light (Book 5), is set in Napoleonic times.

Fans of the series recommend reading the books in order for a richer reading experience, although it is not strictly necessary.
