This quote from Louise makes me think of the discussion today on Reine-Marie, rage and forgiveness. We were asked to try to understand her point of view and assess whether her position was justified. We were also asked if we would be able to forgive if we were in Reine-Marie's shoes.
What I found interesting about our discussion, and it is not something that I've noticed from today's discussion alone, is an earnest attempt to understand Reine-Marie, to remember every situation she's been involved in, both in The Grey Wolf and in the rest of the books in the series, and to empathize and explore all angles of the situations she's faced. This process of understanding has not been offered to Reine-Marie alone, but I have seen the deep, inquisitive and compassionate comments from members of our community extended to all of the characters in the books. There is such an honest and open-minded interest in knowing and understanding the people of Three Pines who have become our friends.
And it just makes me think that if I found myself in a situation similar to Reine-Marie's, one where there was a choice to be made on what the "right" approach would be in any given situation, I would be so lucky and happy to have a group of friends like everyone here. Everyone here shares their sincere thoughts and experiences, while empathizing, supporting, and genuinely trying to understand every tiny aspect and nuance. There is clearly a lot of experience and wisdom, and the result is gentle guidance and helpful voices. I wish I could sit down for tea with everyone here whenever times are dark and difficult and benefit from all the kind, sympathetic ears, the comforting words of understanding and the thoughtful perspectives that would provide much needed illumination.
As a group of Internet strangers, we must be careful always as we are never 100% certain of who is on the other side of the screen. But if we ever met in person, I think that you would all be welcomed into my living room from the start. From the way that you carry yourselves here, I have nothing but deep respect to you all for the wonderful people you are.
Thank you, mei lan. Really nothing to add here this is so lovely!
I love this quote. It expresses so well the different depths of friendship. Being online friends with basic strangers is risky business for sure but I feel quite safe here at BCF because we all have a common love and language – the love of Louise Penny and her books. And, what better way to learn about people than through a pet tax. I’ve always said animals were the best judge of character. We share laughs about ourselves and our klutzy times creating a greater sense of camaraderie. i feel like here – we are all in the living room having te, or coffee or a coca-cola. Thanks for sharing this quote.
I agree Libby. I think the humour and how we share more personal experiences, even if it’s about our quirky four-legged friends, has made this a much nicer experience.
I agree with Jane and Libby. Lovely and beautifully expressed.
Oh I so agree with this discussion, this community is like a warm hug.
I think so too, Jenny. Everyone here is extremely kind and the comments are always supportive. And I always learn something new too. Just a wonderful place in every way.
