Interesting article that both reminded me of "The Long Way Home" and of a fraught time in our history, most notably in the U.S.

Even then, our neighbors in Canada were measured, principled and welcoming.

  1. Interesting article, Jane. None seem to regret their choice, yet several of them are still activists at heart. I wonder how many conscientious objectors may need to seek refuge again in the future – but where to go? There are destabilizing right-wing movements everywhere. The man who became a founder of Greenpeace saying, “You can’t really run away from political opinions that you don’t like” points to how escaping won’t really solve the problems going on in the US (or any country for that matter) although it might protect you personally. As for LP, I couldn’t help but think about Al Lepage in The Nature of the Beast and what happened to him. Thanks for sharing.
