  1. Perhaps the opposite is “shoo kitty, shoo”? Definitely looks like a mountain lion / cougar.

Tony Hillerman then his daughter Anne Hillerman, mysteries set in the Navajo Nation in the Southwest US with 2 Navajo Tribal police are well worth reading. These are my all time favorites and one of the only series I have re read. I’ve enjoyed learning about the Navajos from the Hillerman books. The locations are main characters in their books as well as Native cultures. Hillerman’s daughter Anne does a wonderful job continuing the series. I just discovered a TV series has been made based on Hillerman’s books called Darker Winds. It’s very well done with Robert Redford one of the executive producers.

  1. They are one of my favorites. I have every one and, like you, have read them more than once. Both Tony and Anne Hillerman are very respectful of and knowledgeable about the Navajo people, their culture and traditions. And I would like to recommend that anyone visit the landscape and setting. It is really doable! I second everything you have said in your post!
