The Rei Shimura Mysteries is a cross-cultural crime fiction series by Sunjay Massey, who lived in Japan when she began writing the novels.

  Rei Shimura is a 27-year-old Japanese American who teaches English in Tokyo and eventually becomes an antiques dealer. Each book centres around a different aspect of Japanese culture, providing readers with a wonderful exploration of people and places in addition to fast-paced, engaging mysteries.

Reading the books in order is not strictly necessary but will give you a richer experience of the characters and settings. There are three short stories related to the Rei Shimura series: The Convenience Boy, Junior High Samurai, and The Deepest Blue. The stories were written between Shimura Trouble (Book 10) and The Kizuna Coast (Book 11). The Convenience Boy and Other Stories of Japan collects these short stories together in one volume.
