Alicia Scott is the pseudonym of internationally bestselling author Lisa Gardner. Lisa began her writing career writing romance suspense novels. Raised in Hillsboro, Oregon, she began writing her first book as a teenager while juggling food service jobs and college. After three years of hard work, she published her debut novel at age 20.
In the early 1990s, she wrote 13 Harlequin Silhouette Intimate Moments books before shifting her focus to crime fiction when she realized she couldn’t make a living writing romances. “I’d have to write five books a year… So, as I make these revelations, I understand I really need an agent. I really have a business problem. I really don’t know how to make a living at this.” (Crime Reads)
She quit her job in consulting to write her first thriller novel, The Perfect Husband, and has been writing ever since. Of her shift in genres, she told Shelf Awareness, “I always joke that my career has evolved in tandem with my personal life. For example, when I was a single 20-something, I wrote romance novels. Then I got married, hit 30 and changed to homicide….”
