Ariel Lawhon
Ariel Lawhon is the bestselling author of historical fiction and historical mysteries, including The Frozen River, Code Name Helene, Flight of Dreams, and I Was Anastasia. She also co-wrote the novel When We Had Wings with Susan Meissner and Kristina McMorris. Her books have been translated into many languages and have been selected for numerous Book of the Month Club selections, including Good Morning America, Library Reads, Indie Next, and One Book One County.Â
Ariel says she has written since she was a young child but turned to writing more seriously when she became a mother as something to do for herself and for “self-care.”
Several of her novels depict real-life events or real people, such as Flight of Dreams, which revolves around the Hindenburg disaster, and Code Name Helene, which tells the real-life story of a socialite spy during WWII. She has said in an interview that writing about real people requires “a really delicate balance between honouring everything history teaches us about a person or an event while building my narrative within the blank spaces.” (KimmerlyMartin)Â
Ariel lives outside Nashville, Tennessee, with her husband and four sons. When she’s not writing, she splits her time between the grocery store and the baseball field.
