Lincoln Child

Lincoln Child is an American author of thrillers and horror novels. He is most well known for his writing partnership with Douglas Preston. Preston and Child write the popular Agent Pendergast series, the Nora Kelly series, and the Gideon Crew series, among others. Lincoln has also written nearly a dozen novels of his own, including the Jeremy Logan techno-thriller series.

Lincoln was born in Westport, Connecticut, and graduated from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, with a major in English. He began working as an editorial assistant at St. Martin’s Press in 1979 and, within a few years, was a full editor. He initiated the company’s mass-market horror division. One of the books he commissioned was a non-fiction book on the history of the American Museum of Natural History. He offered the project to Douglas Preston, who was working at the museum as an editor, writer, and manager of publications. The book was published in 1986, and the two became friends.

Lincoln left the St. Martin’s Press to become a systems analyst at MetLife in 1987. Lincoln’s website describes, “Though the switch might seem bizarre, Lincoln was a propeller-head from a very early age, and his extensive programming experience dates back to high school, when he worked with DEC minis and the now-prehistoric IBM 1620, so antique it actually had an electric typewriter mounted into its front panel.”

Meanwhile, Lincoln and Douglas stayed in touch, and the two decided to write a mystery thriller together. Relic, the first Agent Pendergast book, was published in 1995. A few years later, Lincoln left MetLife to write full-time. Preston and Child have collaborated on over 36 bestselling books.

Lincoln currently lives in Sarasota, Florida.
