Nicci Gerrard is a British novelist and journalist. She is one half of the pseudonym Nicci French, with the other half being her husband Sean French. The couple have written over 20 mystery thrillers together and are the authors of the popular Frieda Klein series.
Nicci grew up in Worcestershire and studied English Literature at Oxford University and then received her Masters in Philosophy at Sheffield University. She taught literature in Los Angeles and London.
She has written several contemporary literary novels and romances and works as a freelance journalist. Her non-fiction book, The Last Ocean: What Dementia Teaches Us About Love, is based on her own experiences with her father, who suffered from dementia before he passed away. She co-founded John’s Campaign, named after her father, which advocates for the rights of people living with dementia and their carers. In 2016, she was the recipient of the Orwell Prize for Journalism, ‘Exposing Britain’s Social Evils’, for her campaigning writing in the Observer about the disease.
