The Kate Martinelli Mysteries is a contemporary crime fiction series set in San Francisco, California, and follows the investigations of Kate Martinelli, a lesbian police officer just promoted to Homicide who is paired with a seasoned cop, Alonzo Hawkin.
Laurie R. King’s acclaimed writing skills are on display in the series, but the books are very different from her Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes historical mysteries. The books are grittier and more violent, but readers like the central characters, especially Kate.
Laurie R. King ended the series after five books. By reading the books in order, you will follow Kate’s growth as a detective, but it is not strictly necessary to do so.
