There are so many clues hidden in plain sight in the book. Did you spot any of them in advance, and did you solve any of the various puzzles before Gamache did?

The letters on the bottom of El’s box B KLM, I recognized as Be Calm. I knew the Bible quote was not from Isaiah, but from Psalms. The Lion in Winter is “a film about power and love warped and twisted and squandered.” In that sense, it seemed to parallel CC’s life. From previous readings, I remembered that Crie murdered CC.

I admit I wasn’t much of a detective in this book, missing the clues in plain sight. I did catch on that El’s box was connected to Elle and therefore CC (and therefore CC’s mother). And I then knew CC was connected to Elle’s death because it was more than just coincidence that Elle was outside the department store where CC was. I recall puzzling early on as to why Crie went into a fugue state – I took it as a strong hint that she had a big role in her mother’s death but wasn’t certain what role. And I certainly didn’t put together her good school grades meant she likely had the same engineering aptitude as her father. And I didn’t really figure out the film reference and I don’t have enough biblical knowledge to have figured out the quote. Like I said, I was not a super investigator for AFG so there were a lot of “oh, I sees” when Gamache revealed things.
