One of the best books I have ever read is The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek. It’s definitely not a light read, I was in tears several times. Some parts are dark, as life is sometimes, but then the sun rises again. I just loved this book, especially since it’s based on true events. There really were book ladies and there really were blue people. I had never heard of the “Blue People” of Kentucky. I researched them after I finished. Born with a genetic disorder that gave their skin a blue cast, they suffered the same discrimination as African Americans and fell under “colored” laws. It’s a fabulous book on so many levels. The book is informative, thoughtful and sad. And just absolutely fascinating. Excellent read!! Highly, highly recommend. And the sequel is equally gorgeous.
