I've been sharing big, wonderful bookish spaces, but I also appreciate all the small, seemingly insignificant things that make me happy. Crisp, fresh air, a beautiful, moss covered tree during a walk in the woods, all the happy yips at the dog park. Life is full of small joys that make my days calmer, sweeter and more peaceful. I hope to always remember to take just one second to appreciate the small things. They are so easy to overlook, especially when bigger problems and frustrations always seem to dominate. What small things bring little joys into your life? I hope you will always find these small things, not just today, but every day.

My small things are my two indoor cats, the birds I feed outside and the four feral cats (spaded and neutered) for whom I provide food and shelter. They so love to see me so they can be petted and loved on.
I know exactly what you mean when you receive that unconditional love and pure appreciation from your cats. I love animals and whenever I meet someone else who loves dogs, cats, horses or any other animal, I feel a special kinship. Just like Gamache does when he hears the joual accent. 🙂
Nature has always intrigued me and brought me joy. I love watching the animals and birds that live in my neighborhood. Watching the fledgling birds figure out the world is so entertaining. The beauty flowers add to the yard and our deck with their brilliant colors and variety of shapes make me smile. And oh the glorious burst of fall colors. The last splurge of glory before the nakedness of the winter trees arrives. All I have to do to find joy in my life is to step outside, look out the window, or watch my cat sleep.
Oh I agree with you completely, Libby. Nature, wildlife, the fall colours and the absolute trust of a sleeping four-legged best friend who knows they are safe in your presence. When I see homes with pets who are much loved and cherished, I know I have found good people.
Susan, your post reminds me of this quote. So much truth here:
“The art of being happy lies in the power of extracting happiness from common things.” ~ Henry Ward Beecher
