That is a hoot! Full disclosure, I did not start “The Grey Wolf” the day it arrived. That was not because I had not been counting the days, though! I saved it until November 6th and, at that point, I needed to visit Three Pines and the state of mind it represents. I am, however, expecting to begin “The Black Wolf” as soon as I have it in my hands.
I didn’t start The Grey Wolf the day it arrived because I had to finish a book that I was reading at the time.
I got it on Audible bright and early on the day it was published, and listened all day until I was finished. Only the absolutely mandatory or mindless tasks were done that day, as I didn’t want distractions. Then I read my hard copy at a more leisurely pace. I will probably do the same next October, if possible!
Oh that’s interesting, Susan. Do you always get both an audiobook and the hardcopy upon release? I listened to the audiobooks first through Libby and then, much later, have slowly acquired the print versions to read again.
For these books, I want both. When I love a book, I want a hard copy, so that I can read it and examine it any time I want. I like to listen to audiobooks while I’m doing other things, so that I can get more accomplished, but sometimes I just need to sit down, concentrate, and savor the written word. And if I really like a book, I want it to always be available to me. When I was younger, I thought that once a book was in the library, I could find it there for the rest of my life; didn’t realize until I had some librarians in the family that that isn’t always the case; that they often get rid of books to make room for others (duh, right? Sometimes it takes me a while to catch on…) So after a few disappointments, being unable to get things I loved after they went out of print sometimes, I got into the habit of hoarding the ones I really love; and I really love LP’s books. The audio versions are icing on the cake for me; I love a good storyteller, and when I hear a book it’s like discovering it all over again. So this past year I started experimenting with Audible , collecting the audio versions of this series as well. I already had a “free” credit available, so have already pre-ordered the audio version of The Black Wolf!
