Just got this on my Libby! Now I can prepare for our January discussion!

  1. Lucky you! I’ve been trying to get hold of it via Libby and/or Hoopla for about a month now, and am told I am still “several months away” from getting it, so I will probably be abstaining from that discussion. It really looked good, though, and I’ll read it eventually!

    1. Oh, that’s a shame Susan. We would hope that you’d be able to participate, if you were interested. We’ve been thinking that a one month notice for our Book of the Month selection might be too short, and your comment confirms it. Perhaps we should be scheduling our BOTM discussions two or three months ahead to give more time for Libby/Hoopla holds to come through.

    2. Susan, this is an option, if you’re interested. You can get a free trial for Audible and then download the book to listen to – it’s currently free on Audible. You can then cancel your free trial subscription. I just clicked through on the book at it shows at $0.00 for me, though I’m not sure if it is the same for you at your location. Sometimes there are differences based on location. https://www.bookclubfriends.com/book/the-frozen-river/

      1. Oh, thanks so much for the suggestion, Susan, but I’m afraid I’ve burned that bridge at the moment. I signed up for Audible last year so I could get hold of the LP books for a permanent audio collection, and used all my credits (and then the big end of year sale) to get all those; and since I would really rather get books that I don’t plan to collect from the library; I then put my Audible on pause for the next three months, having used my last Credit to pre-order The Black Wolf for next year. I may indeed end up cancelling the subscription after those three months and just using that when something I’m craving comes up, but for now, I think I need to come up with other options.

              1. Crossed body parts must have worked! I just got a notice from the library to pick up the book! Miracles do happen— and libraries work in mysterious ways! I’ll be reading as fast as I can. Thanks for the good wishes.
