"Imagine"

The final song before the end of the memorial service for President Jimmie Carter, a favorite of his, captured eloquently his life and challenge to us.

This is not to dismiss the coarseness and arrogance of US political discourse. I am not naive. Still, this service and the many tributes to his life and work were a wonderful respite and a reminder that good and decent people have led this country before, lead during periods of conflict, prejudice and discrimination and brought us to a better place. God help us, there are some still among us.

Thank you, Prime Minister Trudeau, for honoring Mr. Carter and us by attending.

  1. Very thoughtful post, Jane. I’m with you. Goodness does exist and I hope we will see, and perhaps we can even help, those with honourable intentions get placed in positions that can lead us to a better world for all.
